Sometimes lectures are never enough. So you get the students to do exercises before you discuss it with them again later but they rarely do the exercises. Therefore the two hours that you spent discussing it with them would be a total waste of time. For the past 3 years, I have managed to get the students to do the exercises by flipping the classroom. These are the instructions given via a Facebook Group specific to each batch.
These are the usual steps for each topic;

  1. Lecture
  2. Distribute the practical and ask them to do it on their own offline – LINK
  3. Get them to submit their answers via this Google Form
  4. After everyone has submitted their answers, I would then discuss the answers with the students.
  5. Then I would download their answers and post their marks on the FB page. It doesn’t take up much time since I can download their answers as an Excel sheet from Google Drive.
